As far as I can tell, this post was the first post on the EA Forum alerting effective altruists to the danger of war between the US and China specifically arising from the issue of Taiwanese sovereignty. Since I think there is a credible (though not overwhelming) chance that this conflict will actually happen in the coming decade or two, this post both (1) alerted EAs early to a worldwide danger, and (2) gave them time to think about how they might intervene.
